How?

This tour requires a contemplative and stealthy disposition. It is a journey experienced "inwardly," where a respectful silence (especially in the library) and a detective’s eye are essential. The visitor must be an attentive wanderer, willing to cross thresholds that appear private and descend into the subsoil. This is a pedestrian route that demands a slower pace, leaving behind the rush of mass tourism to tune into the historical and quiet pulse of Rome’s backstreets.

Why?

This tour is designed to uncover the "Roman Layers," where Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance history coexist within the same city blocks. It is done to escape pre-packaged routes and understand that Rome’s true essence lies in its hidden contrasts: the grandeur of an aristocratic loggia versus the charming simplicity of an artisan’s courtyard. It is an essential journey for those who wish to feel the continuity of time, seeing how the same water that flowed in Imperial times still marks the city's rhythm beneath our feet.

Palazzo Altemps (Frescoed Loggia)
A refined Renaissance palace housing one of the world's most important collections of ancient sculpture. Its crown jewel is the frescoed loggia, an oasis of elegance and color that offers a privileged view of the inner courtyard, transporting visitors back to the opulence of the Roman aristocracy.

Biblioteca Angelica
Founded in 1604, this is one of Europe’s first public libraries. Its main hall is a temple of knowledge, with wooden shelves guarding thousands of ancient volumes in an atmosphere of profound silence. It is the perfect place to feel the weight of history and the scent of centuries-old paper.

Arco degli Acetari
Hidden behind a small entrance on Via del Pellegrino, this corner looks like a medieval film set. Upon crossing the arch, you find yourself in a courtyard surrounded by ochre-colored houses with external staircases and flowers—a peaceful refuge preserving the essence of Rome’s rustic and authentic past.

Vicus Caprarius – The City of Water

An impressive archaeological site located just steps from the Trevi Fountain. Descending underground, you will discover the remains of a Roman domus and the water tank of the Virgin Aqueduct, allowing you to see how the Imperial past literally survives beneath the feet of the modern city.

Galleria Spada (Borromini’s Perspective)

Home to a brilliant art collection, its main draw is Borromini’s architectural genius. Through a bold use of proportions and mathematics, the architect created an optical illusion where an 8-meter corridor appears to be 35 meters long, challenging your senses and spatial reality.
